Hydrogen, known as H2, is one of the most astonishing molecules for human health. At its core, hydrogen works at the cellular level, supporting the very foundation of life. At h2improveshealth.com, we explore how hydrogen can help your body, boost vitality, and improve overall well-being, drawing on insights from Bob Settineri’s book, Live Healthier Better…
I learned about the biological effects of molecular hydrogen (H2 gas) in 2009 and then shortly began my own investigations, including doing research in Japan. However, despite my (and other excellent hydrogen researchers) publishing many research articles in scientific journals and years of speaking at many academic symposia and medical conferences, the understanding of hydrogen by the general population is still lacking. Moreover, there are so many ways H2 influences complex signal transduction pathways that it is often difficult to explain accurately and simply. Understandably, this has been challenging; who knew that such a simple molecule (the simplest in the universe) could be so complex and fascinating!
I met Bob many years ago, and in 2015, he gave an excellent presentation on his hydrogen research at one of our academic hydrogen conferences in Beijing, China. He is a great educator, and his videos of the cells have helped numerous people learn and develop a passion for the biological sciences. For years I have been asked where people can learn about molecular hydrogen in simple layman’s terms but have been unable to give them a resource. Before Bob’s book, the available content was often either accurate but too complex or very simple but highly inaccurate. He has done a great job staying true to the science while keeping the material simple, fun, and entertaining. This can be a difficult dance, which I have experienced even in teaching chemistry or physiology to university students. Sometimes I feel compelled to keep concepts more black-and-white to convey complex abstractions, knowing that my simplified explanations are not entirely accurate. This book is no exception; like the hydrogen molecule, Bob keeps it as simple as possible. While the book appears to make the mechanistic actions of hydrogen very simple and logical, the perspicacious reader will recognize that, as expected, some parts might be an oversimplification of the facts, facts that are complex and have not yet been fully elucidated by science.
Nevertheless, this book does exactly what it was intended to do: it provides a foundation and framework to help the reader conceptualize and understand the fascinating research about molecular hydrogen and its potential health benefits. I admire Bob for requesting a review of his H2 book from other highly-qualified scientists and adjusting to stay in harmony with the current scientific consensus. For those who aren’t chemistry or biology nerds or don’t have a lot of time to dig deep into the “science weeds,” this book provides straightforward insights using simple and fun cartoons and easy-to-understand examples that will help anyone grasp abstract concepts about biology and the potential benefits of molecular hydrogen.
Hydrogen is the smallest molecule known to everyone. In 2007, we published an academic article suggesting that this small molecule could benefit diseases and health care management. In November 2014, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) in the USA approved that hydrogen is safe as “generally recognized as safe (GRAS)” and can be sold as a food or drink. In the following year, I visited the laboratory of Dr. Robert Settineri (hereafter referred to as Bob) in LA, USA. We talked with Bob about the research, distribution, and sales of hydrogen water in the United States. Dr. Nicholson was there as Bob’s collaborator. As researchers in the field of “Cell Biology” worldwide, we respect Dr. Nicholson like a god. All researchers worldwide know what Dr. Nicolson did, and we have learned from the textbooks dealing with his work. So, I was happily working with Bob and Dr. Nicolson. Since then, we have published some academic articles together with Bob and Dr. Nicolson.
Hydrogen has unique properties that are outstanding from conventional pharmaceuticals and health foods. If there is a strong effect, there are always side effects, and it is common sense that we cannot expect a significant affect if there are no side effects. Hydrogen has no side effects despite its remarkable beneficial effects. Also, hydrogen plays many beneficial roles in most organs. Conventional medicines and health foods were based on common sense that each organ had only one effect. Researchers worldwide are working to elucidate these problems. Still, the current situation is that they are difficult for non-experts to understand. Accuracy is often neglected to make it understandable to non-experts. Bob wrote a book that was easy to understand, accurate, and helped many people understand the wonders of hydrogen.
Finally, I would like to congratulate Bob and hope many people will read Bob’s book, understand the wonders of hydrogen, and use it for their health
Molecular Hydrogen (H2), the smallest molecule in our universe, is a completely natural molecule that exists in our environment (in the air and other places) at low concentrations. Over the last 40 years, evidence has accumulated indicating that H2 is exceptionally useful in supporting health and healthy aging and in preventing and treating various illnesses and health conditions. Because of its many potential health uses, interest in H2 has grown, especially in the medical and scientific arenas. However, public knowledge about H2 and its many potential health uses has not increased in parallel with the scientific and medical literature on H2. Bob Settineri has decided to make it his goal to help the general public understand more about H2, how it works in human cells and tissues, and how it can help improve health and healthy aging.
I have known Bob Settineri for over 30 years as a trusted colleague, careful scientist, and friend. Over his long science career, Bob has done many things and performed exceptionally well in every area he has worked in, from basic research in the pharmaceutical industry to developing documentary films for the general public. This latter experience has prepared Bob well for the task at hand—to produce a basic introduction to H2. Its health uses for citizens who may not have a scientific background or advanced knowledge of health and medicine.
What does Bob attempt to accomplish in writing this book? First, he introduces the molecule H2 and some of its properties. Next, he considers what H2 actually does inside our cells and tissues and how practitioners have used this information to improve health and health outcomes. Along the way, Bob has emphasized how individuals can use this information to improve their own health. I find this to be the most important part of his book for individuals seeking cost-effective ways to improve their health and make their own health decisions free of the constant commercialism surrounding the health industry. Along the way, Bob has used simple examples and clever figures in this book to introduce the subject and educate us about H2 and its uses. This is where his background in developing and producing health videos for the general public comes into play. Bob has a good feel for taking complex scientific and medical information and translating it into simple, practical terms and examples, such as comical figures, that anyone with a general educational background can understand. This is what makes this book unique, among many other contributions.
Complex scientific concepts like nutrient transport, gene expression, oxidative damage, inflammation, and many other topics are explained in simple, easy-to-understand terms and examples. In this way, the uses and properties of H2 are revealed to a broad audience. Indeed, reading this book will be enjoyable to almost anyone because of the many examples, amusing figures, and simple diagrams that educate while maintaining interest and provoking additional thought on the subject.
This book is also empowering. It could help citizens manage some of their health problems using a completely safe and natural approach incorporating H2 and, importantly, help them make their own decisions and supplement health directives from medical and other health professionals.
I am sure that you will enjoy reading this book as much as I did, and hopefully, it will provoke further interest in H2 and its many uses.
